Mission Appeal

Transforming Hearts and Lives

St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church is ready to proclaim “Yes!” to our deep Christian call to act with justice and mercy for and with our neighbors. Emboldened by our mission and vision, this document outlines a strategic plan that places our members, committees, council, staff, co-pastors, and community partners in collaboration together for the sake of transforming both our congregation and our community. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we pray that our 2022-2025 Strategic Plan will be the kind of beloved, intergenerational, and bold beacon that will ground us more deeply in relationship to one to another, to our community, and to our faith.

In recent years, we have witnessed gaps widening between the rich and the poor, liberals and conservatives, those with light skin and those with darker skin, and more. These gaps have only been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The time is now for healing, curiosity, and the joyful reclamation of the Gospel as good news for all people. Cue: a bold Mission Appeal, fueled by our Strategic Plan, that seeks to empower SAPLC members and friends to confess where we have fallen short in being a good neighbor to all. We commit to a process of exploration and transformation through music, deepening relationships with one another, and turning outward toward our community.

We are committed to amplifying the existing work of others and contributing our time, talents, and financial resources to our community partners who share our strategic priorities. As we seek to be more active outside our own walls, we will listen closely and value the lived experiences of the people we serve. We will use our power and privilege as a disruptive force for good. Being mindful that some people may experience our participation to be extractive, rather than supportive, we will listen before we collaboratively act.

We honor the broad expertise within our congregation. Out of our abundance, we commit to empower our members to identify and embrace their God-given gifts for service and leadership. The joy of God’s grace calls us to have a greater impact in our world by working together.

Successful implementation of this plan will be evident, in part, both in traditional qualitative and quantitative ways, through hours spent, money raised and given, and relationships forged and sustained. Ultimately, however, the lasting success of our Mission Appeal will be found in hearts and lives transformed through the shared Gospel of good news for all.
