Stained Glass Windows

Some details from windows as installed.
Designs as submitted.

The design for the six pairs of stained glass windows on the north (Luther Place) side of the sanctuary are essentially completed. The committee (including Jan Ansorge, Katherine Eklund, Fred Gaiser, Wendell Frerichs, Pastor Ofstedal, Florence Preus, Maria Rogness, Marv Schindler, and Ann Stout) has worked hard with the artist, Nicholas Markell, to have a program which is beautiful and educational.

The windows will include Old Testament themes from left to right:

New Testament themes include:

An effort has been made to respect the biblical texts, while at the same time introducing contemporary values of inclusiveness. It is our hope that everyone will.find the designs beautiful and interesting. Several of the windows have symbols at the bottom which complement the scene above or hint at other events. For example, the Three Wise Men window will have two turtledoves referring to Mary's gift to the temple. The symbols will, hopefully, promote discussion and be educational for us all.

At a future time we hope to work on designs for the four south pairs of windows in the sanctuary which would focus on the life and ministry of Jesus.

Stained glass window update (April 27, 2003)

Thank you to several families who have come forward with pledges for our remaining stained glass window pair, "The Miracle at Cana and the Feeding of the 5000." It is now funded! Our only remaining expense not yet funded is the cost of the new frames to house the stained glass. The bid for this expense is $4,950.
