ESL Tutoring help needed

(updated April 2005)
Tutors of English (ESL) are always needed to help newcomers to the area. This ministry is sponsored by the Outreach Commission.

If you know of someone who needs ESL tutoring help, please contact Astrid Anderson.

There is a class at the church weekly for conversation practice with an average of 10 students from various national backgrounds. Other students are tutored on a one-to-one basis at other places; in their homes or the tutors' homes or elsewhere. Students hear of the program through the Minnesota Literacy Council, and by word of mouth. The Literacy Council has made a grant to our program for its work and some training is available through them.

We have people asking for help from various regions such as Ethiopia, Ecuador, Madagascar, Egypt, Korea and China. These individuals are at different levels of English proficiency. Some are beginners, knowing little English, and some have studied English in their home country and need help with pronunciation, grammar or conversation.

Time needed each week is approximately two hours, with some additional time for preparation. Tutors and students work out a time that is convenient for both. Teaching materials are available for your use.

Please call Astrid Anderson, (651) 645-5427, if you have an interest or questions.
