Greeter Functions

Greeter Functions

We want our church to be warm, welcoming, and inviting to people outside our church walls or outside our inner circle! Hospitality is especially important before and after worship services. Everyone thrives on being warmly welcomed.

Greeters are some of the most important people in the church because they set the tone for people who are visiting.

  1. Arrive at church early to:

    Check guest books for pens.
    Add current date, etc.
    Find "Communicators" for guests

  2. Keep an eye out for new people and give them special attention. Greet them warmly; engage them in conversation.

  3. Encourage guests to sign the guest book.

  4. Give guests a "Communicator".

  5. If there are children, offer them one of the children's bags containing crayons, paper, etc.

  6. Give children a child's bulletin.

  7. Only if asked, show people where the nursery is. (We don't want them to think we don't like children in the sanctuary!)

  8. Sit where you can leave the service immediately when it is done so that you can "catch" guests before they leave and introduce them to people during the coffee hour.

  9. If you wish, write a personal note to visitors and mail as soon as possible. Visitors receive letters from the pastor and, after several visits, from members of Membership and Church Life Commission.
