Special Congregational Meeting
April 22, 2007
A special congregational meeting was called to order by Vice-President, Ivan Swenson, who served as the “appointed chairperson” of the new chair committee at 12:07 p.m.
History: The Sanctuary chairs have been deteriorating over the past 35 years and 6 months. The committee reviewed 4 different manufacturers, 11 different chairs, 4 different sizes, and numerous fabrics and colors. All the chairs that are recommended have book racks (which is different from the current chairs) with a locking mechanism which will facilitate moving them for different configurations, one of the larger issues about different chairs. The new chairs are from the same manufacturer as the current ones and can easily be re-upholstered.
David Christianson presented the attached resolution which was distributed in written form to those attending. Jon Schumacher seconded the motion.
Points of constitutional order were explained:
1. Signatures of attendance needed to be signed by all voting members
2. A ballot is required
Discussion followed. Interest on a loan will be 5 ¼ %. The current chairs are lower and short people are able to touch the floor with their entire foot. All new metal chairs are taller. Industry-wide chairs are taller primarily because of the American Disabilities Act. Different ideas were posited: a foot stool, kneeling bench, cutting the legs off, keeping some of the old chairs and upholstering them to match the new ones. Ivan Swenson will work out how to accommodate shorter people so they can be comfortable.
The current chairs will not be sold because of liability. The old chairs will be available to members, and those left will be disposed of.
Glen Skovholt commended the committee for their work.
Jim Nestingen called the question which was seconded by Dave Christianson. This motion was carried.
A motion to accept the recommendation of the chair committee was passed by a vote of 68-4.
A motion to adjourn was made by Dave Christianson and seconded by Hob Weiss.
Respectfully submitted,
Marjorie Jamieson, Secretary
