Cabinet Minutes
December 11, 2007

Present: Steve Ahlgren, Caroline and John Berger, Pastor Glenn Berg-Moberg, Rich Femling,
Greta Gauthier, Marge Jamieson, Craig Johnson, Fritz Morlock, Rhonda Morrison, Jon
Schumacher, Mary Shore, Ivan Swenson, Amy Thoren, Kristin Wiersma.

The meeting was called to order by the vice-president at 7:05 until the President arrived.

Devotions were provided by Pastor Glenn who read from Psalm 67.

Cabinet Minutes: The November minutes were approved as written.

Executive Committee: The budget process and call process were discussed. Hopefully the
proposal for calling another pastor will be on the January agenda and will be finalized at the
February Cabinet meeting. The Executive committee along with the Pastoral Support
Commission has begun putting together the Call Committee members. The synod has given
some counsel upon how to proceed.

"Congregational Coaching" has been one suggestion for the call process.

Interim youth and education people are being considered prior to getting another pastor; this
process needs to be expedited. Perhaps Hans Wiersma could be asked to do confirmation. Fritz
M. moved and Jon S. seconded that Pastor Glenn work on these plans and that it be in the
2008 budget. The motion passed.
The Education and Youth Commissions were encouraged
to keep abreast of what is happening so that communication doesn't break down. The motion
was passed.

Pastors' reports: Preachers have been obtained for the short term after Pastor Amy leaves.
Wendell Frerichs will be preaching December 23. On January 13, Steve Ray from China Service
Ventures will be preaching. Pastor Glenn will be gone Jan. 20 and just back Jan. 27 from a
combination vacation and educational event; "Conflict in Congregations" is the continuing
education. Therefore, pastors for those two Sundays are being secured.

Pastor Amy expressed gratitude for her time in our congregation. She is writing some
suggestions for the Cabinet as a learning piece expressing the challenges and joys from her
perspective.

Treasurer's Report: The income/expenses gap has been closed a bit and the deficit is less than
last year at this time. In all likelihood, there will be a slight surplus at the end of the financial
year.

The budget for 2008 was discussed. Income projections seem to indicate that we could absorb a
3% increase this year; after the year closes we will be able to be more accurate.

Commission chairpersons went over the line items for their respective commissions and
discussion followed.

Mary S. reported on behalf of the Stewardship Commission that there were 126 pledges last year.
To date there are 109 pledges for 2008. In 2007, new pledges came to $11,279 and to date,
2008 pledges are $33,538 for a $22,260 increase. However, some of the pledgers for 2007 did
not pledge again, and some did not increase their pledges. As things look presently, we should
be able to count on about $27,000 more income in 2008 than in 2007.

Commission reports:

Church in Society: Steve A. talked about the "Social Justice Information Event" for January
13. Criteria will be formed by the Commission for the acceptance of information booths. A
motion was made by Marge J. which was seconded by Mary S. that the commission
proceed with its plans. The motion passed.
Becky Swanson needs to have one of the booths.

Communication Commission: Because of Hal Dragseth's medical condition, he is resigning as
chairperson of the Communications Commission. Cabinet members will ask others for
suggestions to fill that role.

Education Commission: The Sunday School rooms are going to be painted by volunteers on
December 29.

The meeting closed at 9:40 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Marjorie Jamieson, Secretary
